Letter to Parents

January 2, 2015

Dear Parents and Guardians,

If your student has the honor of being selected to attend the annual Peace Ambassador Summer Leadership Summit (PALS) hosted by National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment (NVEEE) and Florida International University Honor’s College, you should be proud.

PALS is designed to provide daily service learning opportunities, teach leadership skills, increase self-esteem and personal development, develop conflict resolution skills, learn peer mediation, enhance public speaking ability, and most of all students learn to show empathy, tolerance, and respect for others. PALS is open to all students including those who have either witnessed or experienced bullying at any point in there lives. Students participate in activities such as writing and producing public service announcements, roleplaying how to positively react to different bullying scenarios, financial literacy, nutrition and more.

Activities will include supervised time at the pool and outside team building activities. If your child is unable to participate in water or outside sports, please include that and any allergies and medications needed in the application where designated.

The dates are as follows:

June 22 – June 29th Jr + Sr. Staff

June 23 – June 28th New Delegates

June 23 – June 29th PALS 2014 Graduates + Jr. Staff

We encourage students to seek out sponsors who may be able to cover the full or partial cost of attendance. Some students have applied for grants online while others were successful at raising funds through school clubs or asking small businesses for sponsorships.

All ambassadors will be expected to arrive at the University at 9am SHARP on their designated day of arrival and stay through the end of PALS. PALS will be held at Florida International University, 11200 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL.
